I have the S2 which has a different rear shelf arrangement due to the US legislation and petrol tank moving. My head unit is the Becker Indi which has a few extras but is similar to yours. The Amo in those is actually surprisingly good and can drive speakers quite well.
I fitted new FOCAL units as a direct replacement in the rear shelf but did nothing with the front. The size and shape severely restricts the range of speakers available.
I also had one side as VDO but the other was a no-name brand. The difference with the FOCAL in their place was night and middle-of-the-sun-day even without an additional external amp. So my guess is that they are hugely limiting.
It might be worth fitting some of the acoustic mat if the door is dry in your car. It makes them smoother and more rounded.
