Vaseline is fine on the bonnet tapes but it will collect dust and soon turn into an abrasive paste. It deposits black marks on the inside of the bonnet with an element of abrasion but not too bad. I've used a mix of leather, neoprene and paint protector film, depending on the location after trying various permutations!
