I have wind deflectors and love them, but then I never use the sidescreens or hood. If it rains while you're out on your own just put the tonneau on the passenger side and drive faster - the rain defects better of the deflectors....

I suggest you find a friendly local mog with deflectors fitted and go out in it before drilling the windscreen surround then finding out you don't like them.

Regarding the steering wheel be careful with clearance between your leg and the new wheel for access/egress. I changed mine from a thick leather one to a thin wooden one and now it's much easier to get in and out when sliding one's left leg under.
