I know of one chap who drives an RX-8 for practical reasons: he's a paraplegic, and the suicide doors on the RX-8 means that he can take the quick-release wheels off his wheelchair and swing them and the chair frame in to the back seat very easily once he's in the driving seat, as there's no B-pillar and the rear door isn't in the way. His has auto transmission and a push-pull hand control for the throttle and brake; he has a removable plate covering the pedals so that if in an emergency an able-bodied person has to drive it, they can without worrying about the hand control operation.

Of course, he cares much more for the practical aspects of accessibility than for fuel and oil consumption, but it always seems to surprise onlookers that a person with a significant disability is not driving a bland box of a car...
