Why flawed? And I'd disagree the plus 8 is a better car than a plus 4, very different yes but not necessarily better? All depends on what the buyer/owner wants.
I'd rather have the plus 4 over the 'new' 8 any day.
I will dispute whether a +8 is better than a +4. I have both and I must say the +4 is better at least My 1963 +4-4Str is. But for real fun driving experience the 4/4 holds its own. I sold My '63 4/4 series IV and have regretted it every since.
