It may well be that the short piece of hose, only about 10 cm, that gave me a problem was old stock and not suitable for modern fuels. In less than a year it was swelling under pressure and cracked on the outside. Whatever happened to it also allowed it to come loose on the connection. It was branded and certified but obviously was not up to standard. If the car had caught fire no one would have ever understood why and the blame would probably have gone to poor workmanship rather than defective material.

I would suggest checking fuel hose as the ignition is turned on to see if it swells and/or exhibits cracks in the outer surface. With checking the tightness of all jubilee clips too.
