I find that to be a real annoyance with Plus 8s. It helps if you remove the gearbox cover (the leather covering) and line the inside with heat barrier material (typically, the foil backed stuff you can buy). Then you need to block off all the gaps that allow hot air from the gearbox and transmission tunnel to blow into the cockpit - at floor level, the gearstick gaiter, etc.
Having the heater intake accessible to cold air inflow helps too (on some Plus 8s the intake faces part of the bonnet where there are no louvres...!)
But generally the engine compartment gets pretty hot, and that soaks through to the passenger compartment. Going quickly cools it all down, but a soon as you slow up, it starts again ...
Sometime you just have to suffer for your pleasure ;-)
