She does ask for money - she has said that she needs 8000 USD. Sure she may not have asked directly, but any response will see the American 'friend' let her down at the crucial point so she will 'turn to you for help' (and $8000).
This is just the classic 419 scam made famous by the Nigerians using the web over the last 15 years.
The set up works in various different context but boils down to
"I have a lot of money to move out the country, but have expenses to deal with before it arrives"
Victim sends 'expenses' never receives a penny. The scam keeps working as it plays on the greed of the victim.
The old adage 'if it looks to good to be true it probably is' always holds..
So yes - walk away, or check out 419eater.com and have some fun.
