if you haven't ordered a new fitting yet Stewart, a trick (bodge!) I have used which sometimes works is a blob of solder on the end of the bulb.It makes the bulb just that little bit longer and is sometimes just enough to ensure a good contact.....

Thanks JB, I think that would have worked but It might have had to have been a long blob
