Was up at Melvyn Rutter’s last week and saw his wooden formers over the beetle back with aluminium slats. Sorry - didn’t take a picture but it’s in his catalogue. I guess the downside is that although looking retro you’re putting weight - albeit distributed - on the boot lid rather than the hoops..
Looks OK maybe with the wood stained... the Morgan Park one is nice too...
This wooden rack design distributes the weight over the aluminum shell more evenly than a few bolt holes. I bet far less money than what Morgan is asking for their suction cup idea.
