Dix, I don't have much choice, as I'm hypersensitive to the degassing of fungicides.

But when you epoxy boat hulls, you use fibre glass, kevlar or something else to stiffen it. On spars, which by their very nature flex (at least wooden spars), you can either lacquer them, or epoxy them (with no stiffening layer of cloth), orlacquer on top of a layer of epoxy (it makes for a more waterproof layer, and the lacquer bonds better to epoxy than straight wood).

The problem with covering wood with epoxy is that you need to cover it all around. Including that side that goes against the plating. If not, you're making a water/moisture trap where it can seep down where it isn't sealed but can't escape.

Epoxy is the better choice if done correctly, but if you haven't worked with epoxy before, I wouldn't use epoxy on the Morgan as the first project.

Personally, and for my own stuff, I'd prefer epoxy to outdoor paints, but that is because I've worked with epoxy a lot before, and because I'm hypersensitive to fungicides, leaving me with little choice.
