I note the sensible approach to stainless wires from many peoples experience, but in the 1988 brochure the image for the +4 has red wheels matching the red interior and the bodywork is blue, same colour scheme as mine. In my opinion it looks superb and I would love to replicate it.
My heart is ruling my head....but it is a big hole in the wallet for wheels that may flake.
Perhaps Heinz you have the right approach - just buy the painted wires and get them repainted every few years... confused2

Wheels painted the same colour as the upholstery is an absolutely classic combination and will look wonderful.

I think you might be being a little pessimistic when you talk about having them repainted every few years. I bought a set of black painted wires in 2013 and there's absolutely no way they need a repaint yet, if reasonably well looked after I see no reason why they couldn't be expected to last 10 or 15 years.
