I did go back to my original oil filter bypass. Having the bypass so close to the tank it turned out the oil followed the path of least resistance and went mostly to the tank, and not to the cooler. No doubt hindered by needing to reduce the lines from 1/2 to 3/8 right at the cooler.

On my shake down... the oil consistently was in the 210-220f range. Whilst stuck in traffic at one point the oil reached 240f and took about 10 miles to return to 220. Only when I got home did I notice one of the wires to the fan switch had "vibrated off". Imagine that..... vibration! That probably caused the 240 reading.

I may mount a fan cut off switch as you don't need the fan at speed.
