I think this 'statistic' has been debunked.
It certainly has. It makes all sorts of erroneous assumptions, not least that it conveniently forgets the massive amounts of generation capacity required to refine petrol.
There seems to be a fair amount of solar capacity going in right now too.

With interest rates low, folks are likely asking if they should invest savings in solar roofing; I'd expect a climate backlash against building huge warehouses without solar roofing as well over the coming months. Heck, I hear even Boris Johnson is jumping on the climate bandwagon!
