I sense a move 'upmarket' with the new ownership of Morgan.
At the end of the day the traditional separate chassis Morgan must have a sell by date, so even the Plus 4 may be living on borrowed time as far as meeting future safety requirements. I'm sure they see the new Plus 6 chassis as the way forward.
Whilst the CX Chassis is the way forward for Morgan there is no imminent need for the trads to go as they are protected both by Low Volume Exemption and that regulations are not (normally) inflicted on current production models. When it stops it will be because of lack of profit - although regs may be given as the reason i.e. the Defender. (All IMHO of course).
I agree.
Also, lucky enough to also own one of the very last Defenders to be made... and I love it for also being the first vehicle I ever drove on a farm many years ago!
It drives terribly! Noisy! Clunky! Zero safety! But that is not the point... for me, it's a bit of an escape to the analogue age of having to 'double de-clutch' and handle a car in the wet on cross ply tyres!
My Morgan 4/4 gives me a similar feeling... scuttle shake as well! How many drivers of todays cars experience that! Part of what it makes it so much fun.
Neither of my 20 something son's get the Morgan, especially since I have come from 20 years of Lotus ownership!
Personally, I would and will not buy the new 'Defender', because it's just 'another' modern corporate Landrover. So I guess by the same logic, if I wanted a high perf 'modern' sports car in the Plus Six price bracket, it would probably be a Porsche.
I had my Plus 4 for 4 months... for me, going back to the 'roots' in the 4/4 was and is a brilliant journey.
But, the Plus Six will sell bonkers and that is just awesome! A 'new' Morgan for a new 'customer'.
