The 3 wheeler uses a 5 speed MX5 Mk3 box that are not too choosy with gearbox oil.
The six speed MX5 Mk3 boxes like Redline MT90 or Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle. These improve gear changing at low temperatures and are GL4 oils (gear oils) which are not too slippy like GL4/GL5 oils ( Diff oils with EP additives that are too slippy for the gear synchronisers.)
There are no favoutite among the MX5 community with regards to oils for the 5 speed box but I would use a GL4 oil. I have changed gearbox oil in loads of MX5's.
