I would add for your long term running pleasure that the recommended engine rpm's by S&S apply to bikes. The usual bike using this motor weighs in at around 750-800 lbs. Our beasties start at 1200 lbs dry. I've detected stress at 3,000 rpm and I think that the lower rpm's will eat the compensators. My original compensator died at 22,000 miles and that was for the H-D design on the 2012 model. The replacement Centa unit has passed 30,000 miles and shows no sign of wear. I keep the revs up, never lug the engine and try to keep the engine at the sweet spot of 3,700 rpm or so. I've seen too many YouTube videos of our cars being driven at around 2,000 rpm and cringe. The torque this engine produces is awesome and dangerous. The torque spikes will eat the transmission without the compensator and a too low rpm rate can even sheer the crankshaft!
