All this chat on cars once owned had me looking back at pics, my first car was a rotted out Mk1 Frog eye Sprite, though I ever thought the Elan was the best car in the world... I was much younger back then (-: My first Elan was a 66 version of which I have typed some of my experiences trying to keep it going during my ownership circa 1970, despite numerous failures, it having had a hard life, but boy did it teach me what a real sports car was back then....I had a few Loti over a number of years.
I also read mention of Lotus Europa, had one of them too, it had lain for years under trees and was full of water up to the height of the door sills, once I had brought it back to life it was quite special, in that it was unlike any other car on the road, it felt like a race car, though the gear change took a bit of practice to get used to, the old Elan was a better design for sure, think I owned the Europa circa 1976 pictured alongside my 550 Honda 4 and Rickman Bonnie in my old garage, which I later demolished to make way for a home extension...hmm..Not to worry I built a much larger garage as part of the upgrades..(-: The Europa started off life as lime green, when I bought it, it had been repainted yellow in enamel with a finish that resembled the skin of an orange, had a lot of fun stripping it back to then apply the Gold Leaf colours, which was my favourite, I also did my later 67 Elan in those colours too..
Rather nice. Complete with Else spoiler?
Of the 4 Lotus available at the that time, the only one I have not owned is some form. Still a bit of an itch there.
