It is entirely possible that I'm talking a load of rubbish here but maybe others can verify this.

I thought that the pin was in a different position because it also signified that the cylinder had a different bore.

I.e. Different pin position = Different cylinder bore.

The reason for the different pin position as I understand it is so that you can't fit the wrong cylinder.

I could be mistaken and maybe this an old wives tale.

BTW, I would have expected BHM to have changed the fluid when they replaced the cylinder. I would ask them.
