I work from home. Retirement “forced” it on me!
My daughter and SIL are both working from home. She works for the Land Registry but it took them ages to get a laptop to her due to supply and software/server remote access. SIL works for Planning/Development in local Council. Involved in big projects and using Zoom.
It depends on the job. A few years ago I worked in our police ops room. We took 999/101 calls and managed incidents. Someone queried us working remotely but it quickly died a death. Totally inappropriate. They thought the humdrum admin calls could be done remotely but that would have needed being able to route calls correctly. Quite often a “routine” 101 call would be upgraded to an immediate high priority whilst 999 could be the opposite. Incident management needed ultra close cooperation both within our room and with outside groups/agencies. Being able to talk to each other about incidents was also a MUST do. Stress relief, go for a coffee, black humour, go outside and scream! Driving home in a Morgan in the early hours, roof down was great for unwinding.
I did some work for Mori at one time. That was home based for admin but visits to homes/businesses for the interviews. Laptop for the questions/sending off/ admin such as expenses, pay etc..Occasional meetings but at hotel conference centres. Even the initial job interview was by phone followed by a short face to face.
