Do you think that seal can be changed without pulling the entire plate and cams etc?? I have seen those seal pullers that slide next to the shaft and hook into the seal. There are other techniques as well. I am wondering if that pulley can be pulled without having to have something on the backside to hold it while it is loosened.

The crank pinion sprocket certainly comes off without anything holding it behind, it has to come off to take the cam plate off. If you have a look at these instructions https://www.sscycle.com/docs/defaul...82_easystartxwedge_20081202.pdf?sfvrsn=4 they detail the cam replacement but all the information you require is there. If you can remove the seal in situ then I would say you could fit one as well. I have only replaced the seal when doing the cam change with the plate off. The full engine manual is available for free on the MTWC website.
