Simples...avoid auto routes. I always spend time planning my journey to avoid auto routes wherever possible and practicable, and enjoy the benefits of the relatively deserted C and D roads. It’s one of the main reasons for going to France for a drive holiday. Yes, it may take a little longer but does it really matter?
