I seem to remember that the UK specs for speed bumps vary with type. There is, I think, a max height of 100mm with a set profile for steepness of edges for the different types. I occasionally ground the chassis cross member on some or try one side of the car over them if room but try to reduce speed or go over at an angle where possible. There are couple of local roads I avoid as the bumps are clearly too high. Carmarthenshire has bumps breeding as if out of control. Our town centre is also about to become a 20 zone over a big area. Local paper had a couple of pages of official notifications.
It seems odd that Belgium is retrospective in applying the laws. It a bit like a back door method of removing some cars from use on the road. Maybe worth a legal challenge?
