Howdy,

Please dont exchange your motor yet!

The oil pressure relief is located in the oil pump housing just forward and below the right hand engine mount. Where the oil filter is mounted.

Troubleshooting:

Air in the line will not cause a low pressure indication. Air will compress at what ever the pressure is. Sort of like the pound of feathers vs. a pound of lead. Its still a pound, in this case 25 pounds.

I would start with another oil pressure gauge. Get a cheap universal oil pressure gauge. Then simply remove one of the oil galley plugs or just use the line from the orginal. The point is to eliminate the possibility of a faulty gauge. It would be crazy to rebuild an engine for no reason.

If the gauge confirms the reading, the next simplest test is to replace the oil pump. Doing this your changing both the pump and the pressure regulator. There are only 3 bolts that hold it on. Again, even if you try a used pump with known pressure you should be OK. The point is to isolate and to be able to reproduce the fault.

When you do this, remember to fill a new filter with oil and to flood the pump as well.

Lastly, if the pressure is still low, I would then remove the oil pan and inspect the main and con-rod bearings. This is easy, but messy because of the oil. You will be able to put eyes on the machined surfaces. It should be obvious if there is a problem.

If you have any questions or I was unclear about something, please, please PM or email me.
