Not only will you notice much better grip and improved ride quality (as others above have said) but perhaps also consider the legal implications in today's litiginous society.

If (heaven forbid) you are involved in an accident and the insurance company assessor spots tyres that are 20 years old on the car, I feel pretty sure they would try to claim contributory negligence (even if the other party was totally at fault).
