Just a wild thought…. Whilst rummaging around in a copy of Autodata today I took a quick look at a late 1.8 Escort 60 pin ecu.

Is there any chance that you might have say, taken out the small 3 amp fuse suppling pin.1 of the ecu? (the ecu would still get a supply from the main from the 20 amp fuse).
