Peter, it's not a modern 'mastic' as we know it that cures

It's a deliberately non-setting goo, laid in a thin strip, that I used to know as dumdum, it works very well on classic cars which twist / shrink / expand with the seasons & driving, hence it continues to extrude from joints

You can clean it off, but that in itself is a messy job, I use cloth offcuts and sort of pinch & pull
