Simple mechanical linkage Peter. The knob operates a push/pull bowden cable in turn operating remotely fairly common heater valve, controlling the coolant flow through the core.

There's a 2019 Plus 4 currently for sale, the photos show the dash with (apparently) a 3-position fan and a 4-position heater control. Was that standard for that year/model, and is the "sense" of rotation (clockwise for more fan or heat) the same for all models ?
