This is the set up I have for cooling. all the oil goes through the cooler, but because of the location, it is not really an issue during a cold day. The thermostat kicks the fan on when the oil gets about 210 or so. I have a red light in the cockpit to indicate the fan, and a thermostat as well. As a lot of my driving is going up and down the Appalachians, it does not take much on a cool day to heat up the engine.
