We live slap bang in the center of the country where all our electric is coming from fossil fuels so no real eco advantage at all.
It doesn't quite work like that. The vast majority of power stations including the big wind and solar farms, are directly connected to the Transmission Network, the high voltage spine part of the national grid that links everywhere. That power is then transformed down to 440/240V where it connects to the 9 or so Distribution Networks which take the power to houses.
So the power where you live is exactly the same mix of renewables, nuclear, and fossil power as everywhere else in the UK. which on average over the year is roughly 40% fossil, 30% renewables, 30% Other (nukes etc).
