Some of the other teams are suggesting that it works out at about 0.1 of a second per lap time saving per £1m spent so the £5m overspend gave 0.5 seconds per lap advantage. Importantly the advantage is not just in the year of the offence but carries forward as the starting point for the following years car.

I would have thought the only fair solution would be to reduce next years budget for those teams caught by the value of the overspend along with the value of the fine.
