Some numbers for the record…..

Dave and IcePack makes good points. I was lucky, my seals fitted straight out of the bag. I whipped the old ones off, cleaned up with IPA, chopped the new to length with the bread knife and wacked them on, absolutely brilliant. Thought they were all like that, hadn’t realized there was so much variation across cars!

Looking back at my original seal pics I would estimate that I had gaps between pillar and frame of around 8 or 9mm (can’t actually measure the gaps now with the seals on). If they were much less than this I think I might have had issues with the screens opening and closing into the seals.

That translates to about 3mm of frame engagement into the new seals. They are also lubed up here with a light coat of silicone grease as per Bob’s recommendation.

But if the gaps are too far out then you are probably looking at removing the side screen attachment bars for some heavy sideways tweaking.
