Many thanks for sharing further insight to your personal vehicular ideals which have the potential to increase a degree of understanding relative to your thinking John. As ever relativity would seem to play a large part in the creation of personal ideals..?
As I have typed it took the equivalent of five years of savings to buy my Morgan, which equates to some degree of financial sacrifice and thus some measure of emotional involvement from the outset, which was added to over the years in terms of adventures enjoyed and memories created.. My +8 was the first sports car I had bought which was in concours condition at the time of purchase, as previous to that and over many decades my sports cars were bought in need of work, some needing as much as a year or so of my time spent in my rather cold and oft times damp garage to bring them back to usable condition, thus by the time they were road ready there had been considerable amounts of emotional involvement with them..from expressing expletives in pain or frustration to expressing expletives with a different tone at the sense of enjoyment on finally being able to drive it down the road.(-:
I suspect perhaps only those who have brought old cars back to life or finally managed to effect a long running repair process, may understand fully the degree of emotions possible as the result of involvement in such processes..? My Concours Morgan purchase was very different from all that went on before, likewise the purchase of my 991 just over a year ago....Quite a bit more savings went into the purchase of the 991, and as you might expect, the difference in performance expectations between it and the +8 differ considerably. As for the emotional connection comparison, it` kinda hard to evaluate as there are so many different levels to contemplate. However if one might determine that function over form would be the primary criteria for judgement, then the 991 would win as it better fits my transport needs at this moment in time, whereas when younger it was the move away from 911 and into Morgan ownership that more suited my needs and desires of more driver involvement at road legal speeds at that period of time , thus it seems priorities can evolve as can some degree of emotional involvement...?
As for basic vehicle functionality/performance.... I guess an EV shopping trolley might be the govt allocated transportation allowance in time for the over 70`s, that is if future euthanasia age limit regs might allow...! Till then I shall wallow in as much ICE emotional involvement and appreciation as I might be able to enjoy, hopefully without doing too much damage to the planet.. As ever, each to their own.
