I had to laugh last week. A friend who has to have state of the art everything went to see if he would fit in a Hyundai i5 Ioniq. ( I had to look this up). He couldn't adjust the seats because there wasn't enough power in the battery apparently. WHY, when E range is important do they insist on fitting unnecessary stuff like electric seat adjustment? And everything else which few people ever use.......
Whilst in part I can see the point of your argument, I must be one of the few that does use electric seats, in fact I prefer memory electric seats which also adjust the steering wheel and door mirrors. I'm 6 foot plus, my wife is 5 foot and its a pain trying to finesse your preferred driving position after the seat has been moved, if you both regularly drive the same car. The wife's driving position is much higher and closer to the wheel, so much so that I can't get into her seating position at all, whilst I usually have to extend the seat to the lowest point most distant from the steering wheel. Whilst I am shrinking with age, for years I had two seater sports cars because they gave me the necessary leg room to get comfortable. I now wont buy a car (Morgan excepted) without memory electric seats and the Morgan whilst cramped is not a real problem because the wife doesn't drive it from choice, too heavy steering and a manual box, so the drivers seat never moves once set up.
John as ever you hit the nail on the head, in that my good lady was run over by her Evoque and suffered two broken legs in a set of circumstances beyond it`s programming capabilities, as I was not there I have only a rough outline of the way the situation arose, though suspect stop start may have played some part to allow a machine with no seated driver to move off (all be it on an incline) with all the risks and damage that ensued... Fortunately my good lady though gentle soul is much tougher than she might appear so healed in double quick time.. BTW she still really likes her Evoque... Go figure as our American cousins say..?
Sospan, yeah the story of that which the on-board digital systems require in sequence to allow movement of your car by a few feet rings true, but in my good lad`ys case it seems an open door and no one seated in the car no safety belt clipped home did not prevent it from rolling backwards.... Hmm.. Controlled by logic.. Who`s logic..?
Yeah for sure I come across as a grumpy old man though having been involved in leading edge tec for a number of years pre-retiral, I learned enough to know when it goes wrong it can go very wrong. Very wrong..? That might be when Tesla has to recall so very many cars or the then latest aircraft fall out of the sky killing I think it was 300 folk, kinda puts two broken legs into perspective.... but then when that is seemingly blamed on pilot eror it took another of the same type of kite to fall out of the sky before the cost to the company no longer became the most important aspect...? Quite a few failures all down the line of legislation inspection and approval shown to be flawed...?
