Despite my love of my 4/4 - (20 years old, of which I’ve owned it for 18); I’ve always fancied owning a Flat Rad.
I love their style and their mechanical simplicity.

So a few months ago, I happened to be in Berrybrook and there in their big showroom* was a glorious brg Flat Rad, complete with the twin spare wheel mount.
It looked gorgeous. I climbed in and settled into the single backed seat. Really comfortable.
Right, I thought, I’ll go back to the office and see if I can arrange a test drive.

Here is where the problem began. I couldn’t bend my legs sufficiently, beneath the steering wheel to get out of the car!
After a few attempts, I was beginning to wonder how on earth to extract myself.
With nobody else in that showroom at the time, I ended up half rolling my body to get my hands on the showroom floor, then crawling out on my hands and knees.
Not very dignified.

I think I’ll stick with my ‘long door’ 4/4.

* Berrybrook has a small showroom at the front of the site and a big showroom in the yard, to the rear.
Always worth a look in both and then a wander down to their Steam Shed to admire the traction engines.
