From what I've heard of the new chassis it could certainly carry a modern body successfully without disgracing the family name. Worth remembering that when the current shape was first made it was a 'modern body' quite up there with contemporary design ... just that they kept making it until it was smashingly retro 🙂
Agree that an 'entry level' trad would be a seller ... modern reliable motor of about 100/120 bhp ... back to roots basic '60s/'70s interior (ply/vinyl/rubber mats ... light, simple and engaging to drive .... hang the history and tradition on that car .... build a modern-bodied CX that can still trade off that history and and tradition of craftsmanship where it suits .... turn the Super 3 into the EV offering ... mould's already broken (quite successfully) and it's already positioned as a 'lifestyle' vehicle.
Survive the (not looking quite so definite now) shift to EV using whatever small-manufacturer exemptions and possible synthetic fuels that can be leveraged.
