As I suspected, Monty was still on his original 13 year old original Caparo pads, some life left in them but definitely time for a change thumbs
Looks like your Caparo pads suffered the same as mine with one of the anti sqeal shims on the rear slipping. In my case, the shim dropped right through the caliper body to rub on the hub of the disc, making a horrible squeak. I then changed pads anyway.
For others, it's worth checking when you have your wheels off. Easy solution is to chuck the shims away as they didn't seem to make any difference. A bit of coppa-slip or ceratec does the job just as well.
