While part of me agrees with the idea of racing is to win, and history records a fair bit of cheating may have taken part in the process of winning, I guess it is all part of the "sport" ?
I seem to remember one competitor in the US studied the rule book carefully on fuel tank capacity, and decided his engine required more fuel to finish the race, thus dramatically increased the diameter of the fuel line in places... Now whether that is an urban legend or not, I have no idea...(-:
I greatly enjoy all the many TV programmes and vids relative to everything Goodwood related and am very grateful for the opportunity to do so, though unlikely to ever attend the event, therefore what I might think has no value to the organisers who seem to me to have done a grand job over the years.
I suspect that using more modern technological advance than was available at the time over years when the vehicles were originally raced, would seem a reasonable starting point, and I suspect may play a part in the original regs for the event...? For sure there seems likely to be issues of unobtainium, where some degree of adjustment seems reasonable and as such perhaps a handicap applied, again which may already be in place...
Above all, in this increasingly regulated bubble we seem to have created, that which really seems to matter is that the event continues to exist to be enjoyed well into the future..?
