While part of me agrees with the idea of racing is to win, and history records a fair bit of cheating may have taken part in the process of winning, I guess it is all part of the "sport" ?

I seem to remember one competitor in the US studied the rule book carefully on fuel tank capacity, and decided his engine required more fuel to finish the race, thus dramatically increased the diameter of the fuel line in places... Now whether that is an urban legend or not, I have no idea...(-:

I greatly enjoy all the many TV programmes and vids relative to everything Goodwood related and am very grateful for the opportunity to do so, though unlikely to ever attend the event, therefore what I might think has no value to the organisers who seem to me to have done a grand job over the years.

I suspect that using more modern technological advance than was available at the time over years when the vehicles were originally raced, would seem a reasonable starting point, and I suspect may play a part in the original regs for the event...? For sure there seems likely to be issues of unobtainium, where some degree of adjustment seems reasonable and as such perhaps a handicap applied, again which may already be in place...

Above all, in this increasingly regulated bubble we seem to have created, that which really seems to matter is that the event continues to exist to be enjoyed well into the future..?

Well, we're here! .... 747 miles so far for the way down .... the weather for the run in this morning was positively biblical .... to the point I considered re-crafting the ash frame into an Ark!! (will still be iffy tomorrow early on but steadily improving over the weekend.)

Mrs Image much relieved that we hit a window in the downpour that enabled us to get the tent (somewhat shakily!) up, so we're wind and weather tight and comfy without being soaked to the skin.

Short relax then head into the site for some scran! 🙂

Hoping for good things as far as car spotting goes .... off to a good start ... these are among the early arrivals just a cat-swing distance from our pitch!

Galaxie, very unusual and rare Landy and a cracking Bentley ... undr the awning is a pocket-sized caravan finished all over in the matching material for the fabric body of the car! 😍 ... nice rig (and from Austria by the plates)

Many thanks for posting the pics K, interesting Landy indeed, the size of the Galaxy brought back memories of painting a friends similar age Caddy, trying to stretch across the roof bonnet and boot without touching the wings/doors was a real challenge at the time...!!! seems you are in good company all around... ENJOY..

We have a favourite pub at Arundel that we stay at, when we’re at Goodwood.
We tend to drive from Devon on the previous Thursday, returning on the Monday.

The older we get, the more leisurely the drive.

Just watching on YouTube - Charles was 3rd in qualifying. Very wet conditions!

Wet is an understatement ... danger of your rad getting clogged with goldfish!! ... car looked good circulating in spite of the conditions.
