My 1998 4/4 has the electronic VDO speedo - I know because I have just taken it out to send it away to have the odometer display replaced.
It was a pig to get out because the locking ring was cross threaded.
Ended up having loosen the whole dashboard so that I could get behind it and 'ping' the locking ring back onto its correct thread alignment.
I have the same issue with my odometer, where did you get it fixed?
I'm going to send it to Ryan Linley Restoration as recommended by other folks elsewhere on this forum. (Google: Ryan Linley Restoration).
Spoke to him last week on the 'phone - he's familiar with the display problems but he's on holiday this week so I agreed to send it to him next week. Should take about 2 weeks.
