Budster, I am 100% with you in terms of the complication in modern vehicles, I suspect even the general public may be coming round to the idea that added complication is in the process of trapping them into excessive repair bills if and when things go wrong. Add to that the number of times main dealerships seem to struggle to keep up with failing technology. My good lady`s Evoque was on a three week waiting list to have a wheel rotation sensor replaced, and when the same type of sensor failed on the opposite side of the car, the estimated time for the main dealer to look at it was seven weeks... at which stage I blew the cobwebs off my tools and once delivered I fitted in an afternoon, threw in a couple of front brake discs while I was at it....
On the basis I have no interest in working on modern cars, and that a new car should ideally require NO requirement for me to roll around the garage floor... and that EV seemed to be a reasonable option on many grounds, Time was put into researching which might be the most reliable, and Tesla seemed a rather obvious choice..
Unfortunately my wife never got to drive her Tesla, and my general Luddite tendencies were overcome by just how well it performs as a basic transportation device, high tec though it most certainly is..
I also have a 2012 tin top sports car from a manufacturer lauded for build quality and performance.... It has had sensor issues requiring main dealership intervention....Most definitely too complex for it`s own good, or indeed the rep of it`s manufacturer, OK so it has lasted for 22 years, but only with circa 48k miles on the clock... hmm.. I do wonder if it might still be repairable into the future and if so how long for if it`s manufacturer suffers a similar fate to so many others..?
The old mid 80`s Mog is sitting out in the garage patiently waiting, and I know that all I need do is turn the key, and it will fire up ready to go, which is why it seems there are a few out on the www promoting the idea that the general public might be warming to the KISS principal, and that the man in the street may be waking up to the idea that an older car might better fit their present needs...?
