The lake near us is at its summer low due to lack of rain. A pair of swans have nested but the nest is likely to get swamped if levels rise too much. It's fed by a small stream and surface water drainage. The nesting swans reared 3 cygnets over the last year. However, these are now the only swans on the lake. Numbers have dropped over the last couple of years from a peak of about 50, mainly migrants in. The base pulation used to be about 20 over winter. No migration in just out. Some geese have migrated in over the last couple of weeks.
