As far as I can see there isn't a reasonably practical, affordable, electric alternative with even 100 mile range for towing my 1,900 Kg caravan. Similar point to Keith above really. I have a Mazda CX60 for towing and pretty frequent 160 mile work related round trips which has a 3.3 litre inline 6 diesel which does this easily and reasonably economically (c30mpg towing, 55-60mpg on longish non towing trips. I would never have been prepared to do the 3 week tour of Scotland from the South coast we did last year with an electric tow car - I'd have had to stop 5 or 6 times each way - and imagine getting a car with a 25ft long van behind it onto a charging point 😩. From what I have heard from friends with petrol plug in hybrids, whilst they could be an alternative, many of them seem to have lots of technical glitches still. I hope there will be a very impressive leap in battery technology with sensible costing to enable those with caravans to realistically contemplate moving to electric. In the mean time, I'll hope my CX60 continues to perform reliably and that Mazda supports them for a decent time into the future..
