As very few modern cars have manual transmission there is no strong incentive to learn how to change gear, and the more EVs become the norm then, unless you are interested in 'classic' cars why bother.
Having said that, my two grandaughters, who have reached driving age, both are learning on a manual car. I was taught to double declutch when I first started driving, so when I taught my sons they learnt to double declutch. Yesterday my eldest, who passed his test nearly forty years ago, reminded me that he was told by the examiner, in no uncertain terms, that there is no need to double declutch. He still does though.
