I found that using any type of lubricant on the bonnet tapes resulted in a mess when cleaning the car. Dirt picks up on the tapes and despite care, I always found that it would soon inadvertently transfer to my cleaning/polishing cloths and if unnoticed, would then smear onto the paintwork.
So I keep my tapes dry but apply the fluffy side of adhesive Velcro to the underside of the bonnet edges.. It also protects the paint and aluminium which over time, gets worn away particularly on the curves, by rubbing action against the tapes.
As I also had some rattles when going over uneven ground, in addition, I have applied lengths of traditional universal door foam-rubber seals along the protruding edge of the hinges along the length of the bonnets.
