Sorry Bob, I learned to ride m/cycles with oil soaked rear tyres if there was any oil in the forks it did not stay in there long enough to matter, a bulb horn as the battery/charging system was likely to have it`s own share of issues.... Once I got onto four wheels any tread was considered a bonus mixing radials with crossply across the same axle only required a different cornering technique from LH to RH bends.
As I have previously typed, my old Jensen ran on crossplys that were "vintage."
As for the why`s and wherefores of fitting tyres on pairs, yeah well I can go with that to some degree on a circa 400HP car that flat out might see 200MPH, but not while I`m driving it.. (-:
I remember discussion on TPMS requiring tyres across the same axle to have similar rolling radius as measured by pulses from the reluctor ring. However I think on some cars the tec has moved on a tad to the actual pressure in the tyre being measured at the sensor in each wheel and from there via blue tooth to the onboard management system... Another however...(-: ? With actual pressure being measured, perhaps the differences in the rolling radius across an axle for TPMS may not be applicable....?
Yet another however, I suspect ABS may still be inclined to use reluctor ring data, as may PDH systems on some cars... Sigh..!
Of course ask any tyre retailer or garage and they seem bound to stick to the script of replacing in pairs....?
To continue this ramble somewhat.... (-: My retired sister was being given a lift by her daughter, who usually makes use of her husbands Tesla the majority of the time given it`s convenience factor, so much so that it seems she had lost aspects of memory of the way her older manual Cleo or some such required to be driven and struggled with handbrake, dipping headlights and other aspects of basic control... Which came as no surprise to me as when I first drove the tesla I was equally lost. It took quite some time to settle into the thing, but I did wonder quite how anyone who passed their test in a Tesla might fare if ever put in a car without all the convenient digitally controlled aspects... Perhaps as in times past, those who used an automatic to pass their test were restricted to only ever driving automatics...
