He actually became quite seriously offended in the room, saying I should not use the title "architect" as IT had no status or formal accreditation which would allow anyone to claim it. He had a fair point.
Although actually (unless one wants to descend into extreme pedantry) he was essentially incorrect. As a member of the British Computer Society which is the UK's Chartered Institute for IT, as an Enterprise Architect I was awarded CITP (Chartered IT Professional) status.
So although the word 'Architect' doesn't appear in either of the chartered statuses that BCS awards (the other being C.Eng for developers and engineers) the IT architecture disciplines are indeed recognised for professional status.
