A few updates...
While crawling about under the car looking for damage after clobbering another raised lump in the road ( just a bit more paint missing from the gearbox cross member
) I noticed that the kingpins were very dry, so got the grease gun out & started pumping... and pumping...
Judging by the amount I put in before any sign of grease coming out, I don't reckon much went in when it was assembled, which could be why the steering was so heavy when it was new. It's improved dramatically now.
The other day when it was raining ( what do you mean, which day ?
) the wipers stopped parking. Then stopped working in anything but full speed or single wipe. As it wasn't parking, I reckoned it must be a loose connection, & sure enough, the plug at the wiper motor was loose. There's nothing to hold it in, so a cable tie put paid to it's little games
It's booked in for it's first service & the leather MotoLita steering wheel to be fitted. Looking forward to that.
Average fuel consumption is a gnats over 31mpg, which I reckon is pretty good.
