Hi Members, In response to a request for info regarding the work I did on my car, I thought it might be useful to post the following notes for anyone contemplating tackling this work themselves.
AERO 8 MK 1 - REAR WING REMOVAL
Remove boot trim as follows: Remove gas strut on chosen side. Locate & remove screws holding aluminium boot liner & carefully remove, whilst disconnecting boot light lead. Remove plastic moulding from side of boot area to gain access to rear of wing. (replace gas strut after moulding removal) Disconnect electrics to rear light & remove 2 nuts to release light unit. Remove wheel nut locking grub screw & loosen wheel nut. Raise wheel using scissor jack positioned under lower suspension arm. Remove wheel nut and wheel. Un- screw fixings holding lower wing to corner floor plates Remove 2 x bolts located at top of wing from within boot area. Remove 5 bolts along with curved aluminium support band holding wing to wheel arch. Carefully nudge wing to release it as it’s likely to be stuck to wing piping etc.
I removed both wings and had them painted because of slight corrosion around rear lights. I also cleaned & sprayed the inside of each wing, support band and wheel arch with Schultz anti chip coat, followed by 2 coats of ISO Flex rubber paint from B&Q – this stops small dent damage caused by flying stones. I also removed the corner plates and applied chip coat to the underside. My advice would be to use all new rubber gaskets and stainless steel fasteners on re-build. Another tip is to locate all fixings before proceeding to gradually tighten them in rotation, whilst continuously checking alignment. Good Luck Robo

Very useful.
Do you have any instructions for front wings and running boards?
Thanks Andrew

Rob,
As this version of Aero gets older I am sure articles like this will become more valueable. Many thanks

Robo,
I see you are in Bristol. I'm in Weston super Mare and collect my car tomorrow from Berrybrook.

Hi Andrew, Great, perhaps we could meet up some time, but in the meantime here's some bed time reading...
Front Wing Removal (previously posted, but now amended)
1. Remove lock nut grub screw from front wheel and loosen hub nut 2. Use scissor jack placed under lower suspension arm to gradually raise wheel 3. Remove wheel 4. Undo locking nut on headlight clamping bracket, unscrew knob & ease bracket off of hinge pegs. 6. Un plug electrics from head light unit. 7. Gently ease H/Light unit forward away from wing and remove. 9. Undo bolts on forward bonnet catch plate 10.Remove bonnet hinge plates front & rear & lift off bonnet in one piece (no need to remove bonnet if removing just one wing) 11.Undo nut & bolt on grill panel corner to wing 12.Remove grill bolts top & bottom - remove grill & panel 13.Looking down through headlight aperture you'll see a connecting plate which ties the wing to the lower front apron - loosen lower nut & remove top to finally free up each wing. 14.Gently ease front of wing upwards away from location on front apron & when free, pull wing forwards to release from rear slot location at runner board - job done...
Whilst left wing is removed, may as well carry out oil change as filter is located under left wing. Whilst grill panel is removed, check/top up power steering fluid. Runner Board: I've not taken these off my car, but I would say that once front wing has been removed, it would only require removal of the two bolts at the rear end & a few along inner edge to release runner board.
Hope this helps... Regards Robo
