P&O recommend a lot of things they can sell you whilst your trapped on a crossing with no where to go but there on board shop.

Its not about being stopped, its about blinding all the oncoming traffic when you have dipped beam on. Also its compulsory to have dipped beam on at any time when its raining.
How would you feel if a french car came over here and drove around without them? Its similar to an oncoming car with full beam.
For the sake of 2 minutes, and a couple of strips of sticky black electrical tape you might as well do it, as not. You could do it when you are queing for the ferry or tunnel.
Minikeefy does it the same as me, above the 'sloping' line on the left side of both lamps.

+1 - I have a curse or 3 about a few EU visitors down here without them on, so why not stick a bit of "insulting" tape on for minimal cost.

My excuse for buying Toblerone on the ferry, is that it is an essential reaquirement when travelling in France.
